Rossendale U12’s travelled down to Heaton Moor RUFC on Sunday for their first ever match against this opposition, and it made a change for both sides to have a full complement of players (13 a-side).

On arrival at the ground it was a bit touch and go as to whether the match would be played due to the hard frost of the night before, but as the kick off approached, with the sunshine on our backs, the game commenced.
The home team forwards were out of the blocks quicker than Rossendale and created a lot of good quality ball for their backs, who managed to run in 5 tries in the first half. The early kick off obviously did not suit Rossendale. The score line could have been much higher if the Rossendale backs had not put in so many try line tackles to prevent the opposition scoring.
The 2nd Half was a much better contest from both sides, with the Rossendale forwards putting in the hard effort to secure better quality ball to give their back line a chance of running with the ball. Heaton Moor scored 2 more tries before Rossendale woke up for the last 5 mins and worked their way down the field to score THE TRY, Joe Starkie unselfishly popping the ball up on the try line for Tyler Johnson to smash over and ground the ball. The extra points were slotted by Rowan Hopkinson, the captain of the day.

Well done to the whole team once again and thank you from the crowd and the coaches for keeping your heads up and scoring that TRY, to keep our record intact of scoring in every game so far this season.

The usual awards for MOM given this week to the Forwards for their 2nd half performance with special mention for Reece Howarth and Joe Starkie for the hard graft that they put in to always be at the breakdown on a larger than usual pitch.
