On a bright, sunny but breezy morning a slightly depleted U12 side made the short trip to Burnley.
Whilst conditions were good the sloping pitch and 'downhill breeze' seemed to add to each quarter to even things up as much as the normal swings in play by the two teams.
Rossy, playing downhill, scored a brace of tries through Henry and Spencer in the first quarter before the try line was even marked! We then switched off for the second period to allow Burnley back in with three of their own. Again, turning down the slope, Jamie and Matthew finished superbly to take a slender lead into the last period. Massive defence from the team held Burnley out until the last few minutes where the pressure gave the home side the score to draw the match.
Some real positives from the lads with all 14 playing their part including the four who have come new to the squad this season. A bit more confidence to move the ball away from contact and the winning ways should come.
Star Player: Bobby - dynamic from start to finish and unlucky not to score in the fourth quarter, a bit more support and opponents will pay.
Tackle of the Match: Connor - excellent abrasive low tackles whenever he is on the pitch, fantastic for a first ever competitive match.
Try of the Match: Matthew - a nuisance all morning but when they kicked deep to him and gave him the length of the pitch only ever one outcome.
Well done to all and thanks to parents for bringing them and supporting.
