After a 7 week break from competitive matches due to the Christmas Break and bad-weather cancellations, Rossendale U12s returned to the fray with the return game against Aspull. Rossendale took the result in their previous meeting, so the boys knew that the strong Aspull team would be looking for revenge.
In what was a fairly evenly matched game, Aspull just had more desire and were quicker and more organised at the breakdown, to secure the ball needed to create their attacks. Even with a chilling, gale force wind in their faces, Aspull spent much of the first 10 minutes in the Rossendale half. Their first attempt at a try was deemed held up, but they immediately went on to score from the resulting scrum on the 5 metre line. The Dale lads dug in, but were unable to stop Aspull scoring 2 more converted tries to make the half time score 0-21.
It looked as though the coaches half-time team talk had worked, as the Dale lads flew out of the blocks at the start of the second half, as Sam Irving chased down the kick off, and made good distance with Isaac Cornwall in support. The ball was quickly recycled, and handed to Jordan Fortune who powered over the line to score what was to be Dale's only try. PJ Butler converted to bring the score to 7-21. Aspull went on to score two more tries, to close the game off at 7-33.
Dale's Man of the Match was awarded to full-back Ciaran Campbell, for his try-saving tackling all over the pitch, and 110% effort and commitment throughout the game.
